Aidan Becker, 22, died on March 6, 2026, at Mernda train station after intervening to protect a 14-year-old boy from a machete attack. Police allege that Becker was attacked and killed by a man and three boys as he was on his way home from work.
Mike Pikos, 18, along with three boys aged 16 and 17, have been charged with murder in connection with Becker's death. The accused have pleaded not guilty.
The cases have been transferred to the Supreme Court, with a directions hearing scheduled for Wednesday, August 26, 2026. Additional administrative hearings are expected before a potential trial.
Becker's sister, Siobhan, said in June that she believes he "would not hesitate in any way to do it again." Yarrambat Football Club, where Becker was a former player, paid tribute to him, highlighting his qualities of effort, attitude, and respect.
The alleged killers are accused of attacking Becker after he assisted the teenager and walked him out of the station.
