Veteran broadcaster Alan Jones appeared in court on Monday, August 2, 2026, for the first day of his trial on charges of indecent assault and sexual touching.

Following several pre-trial hearings where some charges were dropped or reduced, Jones now faces 22 charges involving six male complainants. These include 20 counts of assault with an act of indecency and two counts of sexual touching. The alleged incidents occurred between 2003 and 2020 at various locations including Jones's apartment inside 'The Toaster' on Macquarie Street, at a public event, and at his former property in Fitzroy Falls in the Southern Highlands.

Barrister Georgina Wright SC opened the prosecution case, detailing the alleged offending against one complainant, referred to as Complainant J. It was alleged that Jones gave this man a mobile phone and paid him $400 a week to "help with his training," a payment that later increased to $600 a week.

Ms Wright also stated that Jones, who was 75 at the time, kissed another complainant, a year 12 student identified as Complainant A, on the mouth at Fitzroy Falls, which shocked the young man. The 17-year-old reportedly wrote a note to his mother the next day saying Jones had kissed him and explained, "I didn't phone you because I was so worried he'd withdraw the help he offered."

Defence barrister Gabrielle Bashir SC opened the defence case, noting that Complainant A's mother encouraged her son to make a complaint because she was "outraged" that Jones would no longer be "footing her bills."

Jones, aged 85, has pleaded not guilty to all charges and denies any wrongdoing.
