A west Victorian stock agent, Gary Driscoll of Nhill, has put his 2009 Toyota LandCruiser up for sale after driving it nearly 1 million kilometres. Averaging more than 180 kilometres per day, Driscoll used the four-wheel-drive vehicle to travel across properties in western Victoria.
The LandCruiser, which is about 300 metres short of the 1 million kilometre mark, will be sold through an online auction starting Monday morning and running for two weeks. Driscoll declined to assign a specific value to the vehicle, stating, "I don't think anyone's got any particular value of what it's worth; it's what it's worth to [the buyer]."
The Horsham Toyota dealership noted the vehicle had been serviced nearly 100 times and described it as the most travelled car they had encountered. Automotive journalist Toby Hagon commented that it is "extremely rare" to find a car that has reached 1 million kilometres, especially one being auctioned. He added that 4WDs or utes are more likely to reach such distances due to frequent long trips on country roads.
Driscoll mentioned the vehicle is "retired" as far as he is concerned, with just a short distance remaining to hit the million-kilometre milestone.
