A shooting at a recently opened In-N-Out Burger restaurant in Twin Falls, Idaho, on Saturday, August 2nd, 2026, resulted in three deaths and seven injuries, some critical, authorities confirmed.

The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Chad Williams, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound near the restaurant, according to Twin Falls public information officer Josh Palmer. Police and investigators are confident Williams acted alone in the attack.

Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks credited the quick response of an off-duty state trooper and an armed citizen who returned fire, forcing the suspect to retreat from the scene and preventing further casualties. Hicks stated, “We want to take a moment and commend the actions of the off-duty officer and the citizen, and their heroic action to stop this incident.”

In-N-Out President Lynsi Snyder expressed profound sorrow, saying, “We lost one of our beautiful Associates tonight. She was taking care of our most important asset — our Customers, and her life was taken by a disgusting human who doesn’t value the lives of others or his own.” Snyder added that the gunman fired both on and away from In-N-Out property before ending his own life shortly after the shooting.

The shooting occurred around 2 p.m. in a busy shopping plaza in Twin Falls, a city of about 56,000 residents. The restaurant had opened just days earlier, on July 24th, as part of In-N-Out’s expansion into Idaho, known as the Gem State.

Officials reported that two of the wounded have been treated and released, three remain in stable condition, and two are in critical condition. Authorities continue to notify relatives of the victims and investigate the motive behind the attack, with Williams’ family cooperating fully.
