A shooting at an In-N-Out Burger restaurant in Twin Falls, southern Idaho, on Saturday afternoon, August 2nd, 2026, resulted in multiple deaths and injuries, according to police reports.

Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks confirmed that the shooter was among the dead and stated, “We believe the threat to the community is over.” However, he added that the exact number of casualties was still unclear as officials were in the process of notifying next of kin, describing the scene as “very chaotic.”

Before the official news conference, Twin Falls County Commissioner Brent Reinke said that Sheriff Jack Johnson informed him five people had been hurt. Reinke, also a former prison chief for the Idaho Department of Corrections, noted that he learned of the incident just before 4 p.m. and that multiple agencies responded.

A witness, Lane Koehn, 34, recounted being at a traffic light near the restaurant when he saw a person armed with an AR-style rifle emerge from the drive-through. Koehn then saw someone in an In-N-Out uniform drag a woman with a gunshot wound to the chest across the parking lot. Koehn, the employee, and a man with a pistol stayed with the injured woman until paramedics arrived. Koehn was later told by police to evacuate because the shooting was still active.

City spokesperson Josh Palmer said investigators believed there was only one attacker and were working to identify him and determine if others were involved.

Idaho Senator Mike Crapo expressed gratitude for the swift response of Idaho’s first responders.

St Luke’s Magic Valley medical center stated it was working closely with law enforcement and emergency responders managing the situation.

The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
