Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held closed-door talks with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, seeking renewed diplomatic and military support amid ongoing conflicts involving Ukraine, Russia, and other regional issues.

The meeting lasted just over an hour, with Zelenskyy describing it as a “good meeting” and expressing gratitude for the joint efforts to protect Ukrainian lives and advance peace. Discussions included the possibility of licensing the production of Patriot interceptor missiles in Ukraine to strengthen defense against Russian aerial attacks. Zelenskyy also emphasized the importance of reinvigorating diplomatic processes.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt described both encounters between the leaders as “positive and productive.” Meanwhile, Trump, speaking in Ankara, affirmed having a good relationship with Zelenskyy, marking a significant improvement from their previously strained interactions, including a difficult meeting in February 2025.

The talks occurred as Kyiv and Moscow intensified long-range strikes, and US-led efforts to end the war remained stalled. Zelenskyy is also scheduled to attend a memorial service for Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a staunch supporter of Ukraine who died unexpectedly this month at age 71.

Beyond Ukraine, the leaders are expected to focus on the war with Iran, efforts to resume negotiations, and the implementation of a US-backed agreement between Israel and Lebanon. They also discussed stalled reconstruction efforts in Gaza following the 2023 conflict between Israel and Hamas.

This meeting signals a notable shift toward closer cooperation between the US and Ukraine, particularly in military and diplomatic arenas.
