On Saturday, August 2nd, 2026, an armed bystander engaged in a gunfight with a rifle-wielding attacker outside an In-N-Out restaurant in Twin Falls, Idaho, during a violent incident that left at least three people dead and seven others wounded, according to the Associated Press (AP).

Cellphone footage captured by witness Lane Koehn, 34, shows the armed citizen firing his handgun at the assailant amid the disruption. Koehn, who was stopped at a nearby traffic light, told the AP he observed a man carrying an AR-style rifle step out of the drive-thru before a second man opened fire on him with a pistol, firing at least three or four rounds.

Koehn also witnessed a wounded In-N-Out employee bleeding from her chest being pulled across the parking lot by a coworker. He expressed hope for her survival.

Online users have identified the armed bystander as Jordan Salinas, a resident of Twin Falls, referencing a 2024 social media post where a man by that name discussed firearms training.

During the chaos, an employee urged everyone to drop down, and an older man attempted to shield his family before strangers helped them escape by pulling them into a car. A witness named Rodriguez told the AP in a text message, “We were trying to get as far as we could and some angels let us in their car.”

Authorities have not released the shooter's name or motive. Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks stated it remains unclear whether anyone was specifically targeted.

City spokesman Josh Palmer confirmed the death and injury toll and noted some of the wounded are in critical condition, as reported by the Associated Press.
