Russia's national anti-terrorism committee confirmed that a homemade explosive device was detonated at the location, as reported by the Tass state news agency.

Among the deceased were an unidentified woman who attempted to carry the device into the restaurant, a security guard, and a patron. According to Ria Novosti, the woman tried to smuggle the bomb inside, but the security guard refused her entry before the explosion occurred.
