At least 13 people, including several children, have been killed in the latest Israeli strikes on Gaza, Palestinian officials reported on Sunday, August 2nd, 2026. The Gaza Civil Defence Authority stated that Israeli military aircraft targeted locations in Gaza City, Khan Younis, and Deir el-Balah during the second consecutive night of attacks.

These strikes occurred days after Hamas agreed to a disarmament plan that involves handing over its weapons to the US-led Board of Peace, chaired by former US President Donald Trump. A spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the strikes targeted military operatives, confirming the deaths of two Hamas militants.

In a social media post, the IDF announced it had killed two Hamas commanders—one from the elite Nukbha force and another from the Maghazi Battalion—as well as another militant from the Jabalia Battalion in northern Gaza in a separate attack last week.

Palestinian health officials reported that two people, including a child, died in a strike on a residential building in Gaza City, with another fatality near Jabalia in northern Gaza.

Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen said no deal had been reached to halt attacks on the Gaza Strip, which is now under approximately 70% Israeli control. Cohen indicated that if Hamas does not disarm, the territory may need to be placed under full Israeli control, despite the Board of Peace plan for Israel to withdraw.

The disarmament process is expected to begin with an inventory and storage of heavy weapons, military production sites, weapons depots, and tunnels.

According to UN estimates, around 60 million tonnes of debris have accumulated in Gaza since October 2023.
