Afghanistan's Taliban regime reported carrying out strikes on targets along the border with Pakistan, injuring several people in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province. The Taliban government stated that 13 people, mostly children, were killed in these strikes.

Pakistan's military responded by shooting down four rudimentary drones and warned that any further provocations "would receive a befitting response." Pakistan also announced it had conducted a ground operation along the border and air strikes targeting militant hideouts in Afghanistan's Paktia, Paktika, and Kunar provinces. Attaullah Tarar, Pakistan's information minister, said 29 militants were killed in an operation responding to "recent terrorist attacks against innocent people."

These developments follow Pakistan's airstrikes on Afghanistan on Sunday, which the UN reported killed 28 civilians. Afghanistan claimed the attack hit civilian homes, putting the civilian death toll at 36 with more than 160 injured.

Tensions between the two countries have escalated after months of relative calm, despite a ceasefire agreement reached in October following weeks of deadly clashes. Pakistan has long accused Afghanistan of harboring terrorists who carry out attacks on its soil, a claim rejected by the Taliban government.
