A Ukrainian drone attack on the Russian city of Nizhnekamsk in the republic of Tatarstan killed at least 13 people, including a child, and wounded at least 39 others on Monday, August 10, 2026. The attack struck civilian infrastructure, according to Rustam Minnikhanov, the regional head, who condemned the strike as "barbaric" in a post on Telegram.

The incident occurred about 800 kilometers (497 miles) east of Moscow. Authorities in Nizhnekamsk confirmed the casualties, while Ukraine's military stated it carried out an attack on an oil facility in the region.

Svetlana Petrenko, spokesperson for the Investigative Committee of Russia, confirmed that a child was among the dead. In response to the attack, a day of mourning has been declared across Tatarstan.

The Russian defense ministry reported intercepting more than 450 Ukrainian drones overnight, highlighting the ongoing heavy exchanges between the two sides.

Reporting from Moscow, Al Jazeera’s Yulia Shapovalova noted the declaration of mourning in Tatarstan following the attack.
