An All Nippon Airways (ANA) passenger jet narrowly avoided a collision near Tokyo’s Haneda airport on Tuesday, August 5th, 2026. ANA flight NH968, a Boeing 767 carrying 197 passengers and crew, was descending toward runway C when its traffic collision avoidance system (TCAS) activated around 6 a.m., warning of a potential collision risk with another aircraft.

Following TCAS instructions, the pilots climbed to avoid the other plane. The aircraft landed safely at approximately 6:10 a.m. with no injuries reported among passengers or crew.

The other aircraft involved was a Civil Aviation Bureau-operated flight inspection plane, known as Dr White, which had taken off from runway D to conduct checks on navigation and airport facilities. Reports indicate that after takeoff, the inspection aircraft turned and crossed the flight path of the descending ANA flight.

The airline stated there was no imminent risk of collision and confirmed the incident has been reported to Japan’s transport ministry, which is investigating the matter. This incident marks the latest aviation safety event at Haneda since a deadly runway collision in 2024.
