Chad Gable secured the WWE Intercontinental Championship on Sunday, August 3rd, 2026, at SummerSlam in the United States. After previously coming up short in major title opportunities and enduring injury setbacks, Gable earned a shot at Penta’s WWE Intercontinental Championship. The two battled fiercely, with Gable surviving Penta’s high-flying moves, including a Mexican Destroyer on the apron.

Gable ultimately locked in an ankle lock submission, forcing Penta to tap out and clinching the championship on his sixth attempt. As the victory sank in, Gable was overcome with emotion, tears streaming down his cut face. Penta then wrapped the Intercontinental Championship around Gable’s waist while Gable’s family entered the ring to celebrate the moment.

Earlier in the year, Gable had lost his mask and sought to make amends with the Luchadores he had conflicts with, including Penta, adding a personal dimension to the championship win.
