Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno publicly stated on Sunday, August 2, 2026, that his former son-in-law, Representative Max Miller, should not serve in Congress amid domestic abuse allegations made by Miller’s ex-wife, Emily Moreno, the senator’s daughter. Moreno posted on X that Miller “needs to seek professional help” and described his behavior as “increasingly erratic and dangerous.” He expressed concern for his family’s safety and said, “If there are any basic standards of character required to hold elected office, Max Miller fails them.” Moreno added, “He should not serve in the House of Representatives.”

The allegations stem from court filings and police reports totaling more than 2,000 pages obtained through public records requests. Moreno said Miller is a danger to his daughter and granddaughter and urged Miller to address the “clear pattern of abuse.”

In response, Miller denied the abuse claims in a livestream lasting over 15 minutes, questioning the credibility of the allegations by pointing out that his ex-wife did not seek medical or police intervention after an alleged incident. He asked, “If I had assaulted her, would she have offered to cook me dinner six days later? Would she have invited me to spend an afternoon at the playground with her and our daughter? Would she have written that we were in a friendlier place?”

Additionally, in 2021, Miller filed a defamation lawsuit against former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham after she alleged that a White House staffer physically abused her.
