Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is pursuing over $470,000 in civil fines against New York immigration attorney Suraj Raj Singh for allegedly filing fraudulent documents in support of asylum claims for dozens of clients. ICE claims Singh prepared and submitted 118 fraudulent documents across 54 immigration cases, with asylum declarations described by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as "identical or nearly identical in language and substance," containing substantially similar narratives of persecution.

Homeland Security Investigations issued a Notice of Intent to Fine Singh, whose practice primarily represents Indian nationals seeking asylum before immigration courts. DHS General Counsel James Percival stated, "Fraudulent asylum claims threaten the safety of the American people, undermine our immigration system, and delay the removal of dangerous criminal illegal aliens."

The agency is seeking the maximum permissible fine of $470,584. DHS noted this is the second time it has sought civil penalties against an immigration attorney under 8 U.S.C. § 1324c(d), which authorizes fines for immigration-related document fraud.

ICE emphasized its commitment to holding attorneys accountable, stating, "Under President Trump and Secretary Mullin, we will hold attorneys like this accountable and put an end to the practice of defrauding and abusing our immigration system."
