Leading Democratic Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong, an avowed socialist and member of the Democratic Socialists of America, is at the center of a controversy regarding a 2021 tweet in which she said, “Abolish the Senate.” The tweet was a reply to a post about the Senate from human rights lawyer Qasim Rashid and remained live on the social media platform X as of Wednesday afternoon, July 29, 2026.

Hong’s campaign spokesperson rejected the accusation that she opposed the Senate in a comment to Fox News on Tuesday, despite the existence of the five-year-old post. The spokesperson stated, “Tiffany cannot produce a single statement where she did, because it doesn’t exist.”

Tom Tiffany, the favorite to win the GOP gubernatorial nomination, made a statement following Wisconsin’s Democratic gubernatorial primary debate on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, claiming that Hong “has called to abolish the police, prisons, and the U.S. Senate.” Tiffany’s campaign has not provided evidence of Hong calling to abolish the police or prisons.

Hong is currently leading in the August 11, 2026, Wisconsin Democratic primary race for the gubernatorial nomination, according to a July poll conducted by Marquette Law School. The poll showed Hong with 38% support, followed by former Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes with 16% and Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley with 7%. Many voters remain undecided.

Hong did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
