Wisconsin state Representative Francesca Hong, a Democrat running for governor, has disavowed a 2021 social media post that called for abolishing the U.S. Senate. Her campaign told Fox News Digital on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, that Hong does not recall posting in favor of abolishing the Senate and that it does not reflect her current position.

The controversy intensified after Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) co-chair Megan Romer confirmed in a viral interview that the DSA platform supports eliminating the Senate, national borders, and prisons, as well as replacing the presidency and Supreme Court.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Tiffany cited the interview and claimed Hong supported all those ideas. However, Hong's communications director Allison Geyer responded, saying, “Tom Tiffany is once again telling lies and inventing quotes, because he can't run on his record.” The campaign emphasized that Tiffany has not produced any statement where Hong called for abolishing the Senate because none exists.

Hong's campaign characterized the 2021 post as a “frustrated reaction” to the Senate's acquittal of Donald Trump on February 13, 2021, rather than a formal policy stance. They also clarified that Hong has only discussed police and prison abolition as an aspirational goal, does not support replacing the presidency with the Supreme Court, and does not favor eliminating national borders. The campaign noted that Hong does not agree with all aspects of the DSA's national platform.

The dispute highlights the political tensions in the Wisconsin gubernatorial race, with both candidates addressing the implications of the DSA's platform and Hong's past statements.
