At Comic-Con International on Saturday, July 27th, 2026, Marvel Studios announced that David Jonsson will take on the role of the new Black Panther, portraying the son of Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa. Jonsson appeared on stage with director Ryan Coogler and co-stars Letitia Wright and Winston Duke, expressing gratitude for joining the franchise. The film "Black Panther III" is scheduled for release in December 2028.

Chadwick Boseman, the original Black Panther, passed away in 2020. Since the 2022 film "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" revealed that T’Challa had a son, fans speculated about who would inherit the mantle, with actors Damson Idris and Letitia Wright among the possibilities.

Additionally, Marvel announced that Ryan Gosling will star as Ghost Rider in a film also set for release in 2028. Gosling’s longtime partner, Eva Mendes, starred in the original 2007 standalone "Ghost Rider" film alongside Nicolas Cage.

Marvel Studios aims to reset its brand following a period of mixed critical reception and an abundance of Disney+ series. Upcoming releases include "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," set for July 31, 2026, and "Doomsday," both expected to perform strongly at the box office.

Furthermore, Marvel revealed that the 2019 film "Avengers: Endgame," directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, will be re-released in theaters in September 2026.

The original 2018 "Black Panther" film was the first superhero movie nominated for a Best Picture Oscar and grossed over $1.3 billion worldwide, with its sequel earning $850 million.
