Wu Xinbo, dean of the Institute of International Studies at Fudan University in Shanghai and a leading Chinese expert on the United States, has provided insights into the evolving dynamics of China-US relations amid changes in American foreign policy. In an interview first published by SCMP Plus, Wu explained that during Donald Trump’s second term, US foreign policy has shifted toward pragmatic realism. This approach redefines Washington’s goals based on American power and seeks to reposition the US appropriately within a multipolar world while redesigning its foreign strategy.

Wu noted that this period coincides with the 250th anniversary of the United States, marking an important phase of adjustment in US foreign policy. Regarding China-US relations, he observed that after recent diplomatic maneuvering and the Trump administration’s realist mindset, the relationship is moving toward "process management" and aims for dynamic stability.

This analysis highlights the complex interplay between US policy shifts and China’s rise on the global stage.
