A eulogist at the funeral of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei called for the death of US President Donald Trump on July 5, 2026. Mohammad Rasouli, speaking before prayers over Khamenei's body, asked, “Why shouldn't we kill the one who killed my Imam and my Leader?” and added, “It is a disgrace for us if we do not kill your killer.”

During his address, Rasouli also urged the crowd to chant “death to America” and “death to Israel,” stating, "Trump's killing is our duty." He was met with applause after asking, “Why is the most despicable man in the world still alive?”

Posters and slogans supporting the killing of Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were visible at the ceremony. A red flag bearing the phrase “Ya Litharat al-Hussein” (“O Avengers of Hussein”) was raised above the dome of Tehran's Mosalla during the event.

The funeral took place amid ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran aimed at ending the Iran war. Earlier in the year, Trump had stated he gave “very firm instructions” to “wipe them off the face of this Earth” if Iran ever attempted to assassinate him.

Speaking from Mount Rushmore on the eve of America's 250th anniversary, Trump said the US had "knocked the hell out of Iran" and that Tehran was "dying to settle." He added, "They want to settle so badly. We gave him a week off for a funeral because we're nice."

Rasouli's remarks and the funeral's atmosphere underscore the continued tensions between Iran and the US despite diplomatic efforts.
