Brisbane's historic Centenary Pool will close at the end of August to undergo major redevelopment for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032.
The now heritage-listed pool was first opened to the public in 1959 and became Brisbane's first Olympic standard pool.
The centre reflected a national mania for swimming in the wake of Australia's success in the pool at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games, where the host country walked away with eight gold medals in swimming events.
