FAA investigating Trump helicopter safety incident

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating a Tuesday afternoon incident involving Marine One, the helicopter reserved for President Trump’s expedited travel in the Beltway.

The president was flying out from the White House on Tuesday afternoon under normal conditions, but air traffic controllers at nearby Reagan Washington National Airport had not yet halted commercial flights — as is protocol for Marine One departures, The Wall Street Journal first reported.

As a result, another jet departed around the same time as Trump in a loss of standard separation, an FAA protocol that keeps aircraft a safe distance apart.

Although the jet did not come close to a collision with Marine One, investigators are reviewing the incident.
