Bessent says U.S., Iran could reach a deal on Strait of Hormuz within a day or two

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Tuesday said the U.S. and Iran could strike a deal by midweek to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and allow normal shipping through the oil choke point.

“I think there is a chance we may have a deal today or tomorrow to open the strait and move towards a more normalized position in this conflict,” Mr.

Bessent said returning the strait to normal would benefit oil markets and a host of other sectors, including the fertilizer and chemical industries.

The secretary suggested that Iran would not be allowed to charge a toll.
