Senate appropriators reach funding deal to avoid shutdown

Senators on the Appropriations Committee on Sunday agreed to a funding bill that would prevent a government shutdown at the end of September and fund the government through part of December.

An initial procedural vote is scheduled for Monday night, with Senate leaders eyeing to pass the bill before going on recess.

The bill will include “necessary adjustments” for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, the Disaster Relief Fund and shipbuilding across several vessels.

The bill also temporarily blocks the White House from making changes to the grant-approving process.
