Southern university requires business suits, bans du-rags and other headwear in new dress code

Mark Brown, president and CEO of Tuskegee University in Alabama, is bringing forward a "professional educational environment" to one of the nation's most prestigious Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU).

Students will be required to bring a business suit and shoes to campus for business-like meetings and cannot dress unprofessionally in the classrooms or cafeterias.

Head coverings will also be barred, with exceptions for those that serve religious or medical purposes.

"The university has developed a new policy for student attire on campus, classroom attendance, and cell phone use in classrooms," Brown wrote in a message to students.
