Mikie Sherrill faulted for putting 6,600 noncitizens on the voter rolls says the state had the data to stop it and signed off anyway.
IDEMIA, the French identity technology firm Sherrill blamed this week, pushed back on the governor’s account in a statement to the New York Post.
Spokesperson Lisa Shoemaker confirmed Sherrill’s statement that all 6,600 people answered “Yes” to registering and “No” to being a citizen — which should have rendered them ineligible for the voter rolls — but disputed the governor’s claim that a “glitch” allowed them to be registered.
“The 6,600 records submitted to the [Motor Vehicle Commission] and Division of Elections contained correct information according to the design specifications as set out by the state,” she told the Post, adding that the responses were “recorded correctly and always available.”
