China’s Zhipu AI announced the launch of its newest open-weight model, GLM-5.3-Flash, previously code-named Ox Alpha. The company revealed that the model operated entirely on a cluster of 100,000 domestically produced chips during a high-profile stealth trial.
The announcement came after a week of intense activity on the artificial intelligence model marketplace OpenRouter and the agent platform OpenCode. According to Zhipu, the model processed 62 trillion tokens before its formal release on Wednesday, August 27, 2026. On OpenRouter alone, it processed over 11 trillion tokens in its first three days, marking the platform’s largest launch to date.
During the preview period, Ox Alpha quickly rose to the top of global usage rankings. OpenRouter data from Thursday showed the model ranked first among coding systems on the platform, accounting for 10.3 trillion tokens, nearly 31% of the total weekly volume.
Following the launch, Zhipu’s shares closed more than 12% higher at HK$1,160 in Hong Kong on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
