Vietnam and Myanmar have agreed to increase their annual bilateral trade by nearly 70%, targeting a total of $1 billion, according to the Vietnamese government. This announcement came during the first visit by a Vietnamese foreign minister to Myanmar since the military takeover in 2021.

Vietnamese Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung was welcomed by Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing in Naypyidaw in August 2026, highlighting a move toward widening cooperation between the two countries.

This development reflects growing engagement between Vietnam and Myanmar within the Asian region.
