Two people were killed in a domestic violence incident at a school in the town of Gosen-Neu Zittau near Berlin, Germany, local police reported on Thursday, August 27th, 2026.

Brandenburg state police arrested a 19-year-old German man who is considered the prime suspect. Authorities clarified that the incident was not a mass shooting, though the weapon used has not been specified. It remains unclear if the suspect was a student at the private Docemus school where the incident occurred.

One victim was an 18-year-old female secondary school student, and the other was a 30-year-old man who died while trying to intervene, according to local media. The suspect is believed to be the ex-boyfriend of the female victim, as reported by Maz Online.

Ulrike Liedtke, speaker of Brandenburg's regional parliament, condemned the act as a "cowardly femicide" and expressed sorrow that a citizen who showed moral courage also lost his life trying to help. State premier Dietmar Woidke described the event as an "unimaginable act of violence."

Michael Kunz, managing director of the school, announced that classes would be cancelled on Friday, August 28th, 2026, though the school would remain open for students who wished to attend.
