As President Donald Trump grapples with efforts to end the war with Iran and faces the lowest approval ratings of his second term, he has recently posted a series of AI-generated images depicting himself alongside key historical American figures, including George Washington.

Earlier in August 2026, Trump shared an AI image showing himself and Washington standing side by side in what appears to be an imagined version of Trump’s completed White House ballroom. Shortly after, he posted three additional AI images featuring the two in the ballroom, with one showing Trump holding a piece of paper and pointing at the ceiling.

These posts on Trump’s Truth Social platform come amid scrutiny over reports of poor living conditions and morale aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln after its record deployment, as well as ongoing negotiations with Tehran.

Angelo Carusone, president and CEO of the media watchdog Media Matters, suggested that Trump’s AI posts reflect a deeper sentiment that he views himself as on par with, or potentially superior to, George Washington. Carusone also noted that "every day in Washington DC the city changes and gets more Trump-branded," drawing an analogy to how many things were named after Washington posthumously.

When asked by The Guardian whether Trump, aged 80, believed he had actually met George Washington—who died over 200 years ago—the White House did not directly answer. Instead, a spokesperson emphasized that Truth Social is "the most powerful and popular social media platform in the world" because it allows Trump to communicate directly with the American people and the world without media bias.
