On Thursday, August 27th, 2026, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that Russia could target British military sites both inside and outside Ukraine in response to Ukrainian attacks on Russia using British missiles. Zakharova urged Britain to reconsider what she described as London’s hostile stance on Ukraine, warning that it risked escalating the conflict to a new level.

Earlier in the day at a Moscow news briefing, Zakharova accused Britain and France of "playing with fire" by supplying sensitive missile technology to Ukraine. This follows Britain's announcement on Monday, August 24th, 2026, permitting Kyiv access to classified technology to begin producing Storm Shadow long-range cruise missiles, capable of striking deep within Russia. France has already approved licensing the technology for the European missile.

Additionally, the Kremlin dismissed US media reports suggesting Russia might attack a NATO member state and that US CIA Director John Ratcliffe’s recent visit to Moscow was intended to warn Russia against such action. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called these reports "scare-story material" with no basis in reality or Russia's intentions.
