Russia has issued a strong warning to the United Kingdom, threatening to target British military installations inside and outside Ukraine if Kyiv continues to launch long-range UK-made cruise missiles into Russian territory. The warning was delivered by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova during a news briefing in Moscow on Thursday, August 27, 2026, marking the most direct threat from Russia to Britain to date.
Zakharova stated, “We have repeatedly warned that any British military installations and equipment in Ukraine and beyond its borders could be targeted in response to Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory carried out using British weapons.”
This warning follows accusations from Moscow that Ukraine fired British Storm Shadow missiles at a shopping centre in the Russian-controlled city of Donetsk, an attack that Russian officials claim wounded civilians, including children.
In response to these developments, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reported on social media that Russia launched a massive overnight strike against Ukraine, targeting ports, grain storage, energy, industry, and other infrastructure using ballistic and hypersonic missiles as well as combat drones. The Ukrainian air force said its air defenses intercepted seven ballistic missiles, one anti-ship cruise missile, and nearly 90 percent of incoming drones.
The escalating tensions highlight the ongoing conflict dynamics involving Russia, Ukraine, and NATO member Britain, with Moscow signaling potential military actions beyond Ukrainian borders.
