The crate in this photograph is the property of, and presumed to have been created by, the United States Library of Congress . This crate housed glass discs copied from Alan Lomax's original recordings of Jelly Roll Morton (see en:The Complete Library of Congress Recordings ). Lomax's original discs were made of acetate and aluminum. When the Library made copies of these during World War II, aluminum was in short supply due to the war effort, and they used glass discs instead.
