The coastal Chinese province of Zhejiang is preparing for the arrival of Typhoon Saudel, prompting cancellations of flights and ferry services across the region. Major commercial centers including Ningbo, Zhoushan, and Wenzhou are affected.

Ningbo Lishe International Airport announced that flights in and out of the airport would be suspended starting from 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 27th, 2026. In Wenzhou, 90 flights were cancelled, while 22 flights were grounded in Zhoushan.

According to the National Meteorological Centre, Typhoon Saudel is expected to make landfall along the coast between Sanmen county in eastern Zhejiang and Xiapu in southeastern Fujian province between early Friday morning and noon, either as a typhoon or severe typhoon.

If Saudel directly hits Zhejiang, it will mark the third typhoon landfall in the province this year, matching the 2004 record of three typhoon landfalls in a single year. Earlier this year, Zhejiang was directly hit by Typhoon Bavi in July and Typhoon Dolphin earlier in August, both bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall.

Residents and authorities in Zhejiang are taking precautions as the region braces for the storm.
