United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 49,571 people in July 2026, marking the highest monthly total since President Donald Trump began his second term in office, according to data from the Deportation Data Project. This project is a collaboration between the University of California, Berkeley and the University of California, Los Angeles.

The July arrests represent a roughly 15 percent increase over June’s figures and about a 70 percent rise compared to February 2026. Nearly 20,000 of those arrested were in Texas and Florida.

The surge in arrests follows a hiring campaign in which ICE added approximately 12,000 officers and agents last year. Before Trump’s return to the White House in January 2025, monthly arrests were slightly over 8,000, primarily involving immigrants transferred from local jails and prisons to ICE custody.

The data was analyzed by The Associated Press and reflects government figures provided by ICE to the Deportation Data Project. The increase in detainments comes amid ongoing debates over immigration policy and enforcement.
