A Ukrainian airstrike on Wednesday, August 26th, 2026, killed nine people in Ukraine's eastern, Russian-occupied Luhansk region, according to Leonid Pasechnik, leader of Russia's occupying forces there. Pasechnik described the strike as "a war crime," stating that eight people died instantly and a 20-year-old woman later succumbed to her injuries. The bus targeted was reportedly carrying 15 people, with five others injured.
Meanwhile, Kyiv continued its campaign against Russian logistics by using drones to destroy a Wildberries warehouse in Russia's Tambov region, southeast of Moscow. Tambov's governor reported that the 100,000 square-meter (1.1 million square-foot) facility, roughly the size of 14 soccer fields, was "completely destroyed by fire."
Ukrainian strikes on such facilities aim to disrupt Kremlin military logistics, as Kyiv claims Wildberries supports the Russian military effort. These attacks also impact Russia's civilian economy. This week, Kyiv expanded its targets to include Ozon, Russia's second-largest online retailer.
An analysis by Reuters, based on satellite imagery, estimated that Ukrainian drone attacks have severely damaged at least 1.9 million square meters of warehouse space across more than 20 Wildberries and Ozon facilities in recent weeks.
The escalation comes amid stalled US-brokered peace talks and continued maximalist demands from the Kremlin regarding the ongoing conflict.
