Mike Mazzei, a former Oklahoma state senator and financial planner, secured the Republican nomination for governor in Oklahoma by winning a primary runoff against incumbent Attorney General Genter Drummond on Tuesday evening, August 25, 2026. Mazzei has pledged to eliminate Oklahoma’s income tax within six years and to remove property taxes for seniors and veterans. Drummond, who also emphasized his conservative credentials as a tough-on-crime attorney general and decorated fighter pilot, stated, "I’ll keep standing strong with President Trump to secure the border, deport illegals and stop the flow of drugs and crime."

The runoff followed a crowded primary field after the previous governor’s exit, with no candidate achieving the required 50% majority in the initial June 2 primary. Mazzei’s win positions him as the heavy favorite to become Oklahoma’s next governor, with supporters calling for a pro-business leader to guide the state for the next four years.

President Trump recently spoke at an event in the Rose Garden of the White House in Washington, D.C., underscoring his ongoing influence within the Republican Party.
