On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, Mediacorp received the Singapore Environmental Achievement Award 2026 for leadership and advocacy. The award ceremony, organized by the Singapore Environment Council (SEC) at the Parkroyal Collection Marina Bay, honored several organizations for their contributions to environmental stewardship.
The SEC highlighted that companies are addressing environmental challenges relevant to their operations by leveraging their capabilities, resources, and influence to drive meaningful change. Mediacorp was commended for its initiatives including renewable energy use, carbon accounting, sustainable procurement, and resource efficiency.
Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu, who attended the event, emphasized the vital role businesses play in protecting Singapore and its citizens from climate change. She stated, "The companies that will thrive are those that understand climate risk as a business risk, and sustainability as a business opportunity." She also noted the need for companies to navigate trade-offs between costs, competitiveness, productivity, environmental impact, and the needs of workers and consumers.
Mediacorp's editor-in-chief and chief sustainability officer Walter Fernandez explained that the company is actively reducing its environmental impact by measuring and managing carbon emissions, generating renewable energy through solar panels, and improving energy efficiency. He added, "Through the thousands of hours of trusted journalism and award-winning documentaries related to sustainability that we have produced, we have made complex sustainability issues accessible, brought inspiring ideas to wider audiences, and encouraged people to consider the role each of us can play."
The award recognizes Mediacorp's ability to amplify its environmental impact beyond its organizational boundaries, supporting Singapore's broader sustainability goals.
