At least eight people have died after flash floods swept through Nepal's mountainous Rasuwa district, damaging villages, roads, bridges, and energy facilities, authorities reported on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. The floods affected areas near Tibet, including Syapru Besi and Timure, which together have a population of about 50,000.
The Nepal Electricity Authority stated that approximately 430 megawatts of production capacity, including hydropower and solar facilities, were damaged by the floods. Due to high water levels, helicopters were unable to land in the affected areas, complicating rescue efforts.
The Nepal Army has deployed helicopters and disaster response personnel to assist in the rescue operations. Shah, speaking via a social media post, said, “Work has started to take necessary steps in coordination with the medical team, scouts, and Red Cross.”
Authorities have warned that casualties could be higher and property losses more severe as assessments continue.
