In a resurfaced 2016 interview, Bobby Pulido, a Latin Grammy Award-winning artist and Democratic congressional candidate for Texas, defended a graphic music video by singer Gerardo Ortiz that depicts sexual violence and murder. The video, titled "Fuiste Mía" ("You Were Mine"), shows a storyline where a man catches his girlfriend being unfaithful, shoots her lover, then restrains, blindfolds, and gropes her before placing her in the trunk of his car and setting it on fire.

Pulido responded to public backlash by stating, "I've made videos with suggestive images; some have stayed, others have been edited, and still others were never used. That's the decision of the artist and their team." He also downplayed the video's graphic nature, arguing that viewers have become accustomed to increasingly explicit images, adding, "it’s impossible to have Twitter and not watch porn." Pulido compared the music video to real-life tragedies in his defense.

Pulido, known for Tejano music hits like "Desvelado" and "Se Murió de Amor," has received five Latin Grammy nominations, winning Best Tejano Album in 2022 and 2025. He spoke at a "Take Back Texas" campaign event with State Representative James Talaricos in Edinburg, Texas, on February 27, 2026.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) sharply criticized Pulido's defense. Zach Kraft, an RNC spokesperson, called Pulido "a truly sick individual who is morally rotten" in a statement to Fox News Digital.

This controversy adds to the challenges Pulido faces as he campaigns against Republican Monica De La Cruz for a House seat.
