Opposition Leader Angus Taylor has renewed calls for Labor MP Luke Gosling to be stood down from his role as special envoy after Gosling was charged with breaching his bail conditions on August 25, 2026.

In July 2026, Gosling was charged with two counts of assault related to an alleged incident involving NT Administrator David Connolly at a community event in Darwin earlier that month. A spokesperson for Gosling stated that no details had been shared by police regarding the alleged breach of bail.

Taylor described the situation as "completely unacceptable" and emphasized that while presumption of innocence is important, Gosling should be stood down while the legal proceedings continue. He further stated, "If it was a test then, it's an even stronger test today. He must act. It's completely unacceptable for a second charge to be placed on Luke Gosling."

Separately, Taylor commented on energy policy, urging the government to use all types of energy to power new AI data centres in Australia. Speaking to ABC News Breakfast, he said the government should not discriminate between energy sources, noting, "If it's not technology-neutral, it will raise the cost of energy for all Australians," and "If you've got more supply options, you get lower prices. This is well understood … All technologies should be available. That's how you get downward pressure on prices."

Premiers are reportedly divided over how to meet the rapidly growing energy demands of AI data centres ahead of a national cabinet meeting.
