Tropical Storm Dolphin dumped heavy rain across eastern China on Monday, August 10th, 2026, causing flooding in several areas after making landfall as a typhoon the previous evening. The storm struck Taizhou in Zhejiang province Sunday evening with winds reaching 151 kph (93 mph), following heavy rainfall over northern Taiwan during the weekend.

Authorities have issued warnings about the risks of severe flooding and landslides in some regions. State broadcaster CCTV reported that officials in Yueqing, a city in Zhejiang province, were searching for people trapped in flooded homes and clearing debris from streets.

Ahead of the typhoon's arrival, more than 300,000 people were preemptively relocated, and Shanghai’s two airports canceled over 1,300 flights to minimize disruption.

Tropical Storm Dolphin had maximum sustained winds of 65 kph (40 mph) on Monday morning and was continuing to weaken, according to Taiwan's Central Weather Administration. The China Meteorological Administration stated the storm was moving northwest at 15 to 20 kilometers per hour (9 to 12 mph) and expected to weaken further until it dissipates.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Chan-hom was advancing toward Japan’s Pacific coast, with winds of 83 kph (51 mph) Monday morning and forecasted to strengthen slightly before landfall between Tuesday and Wednesday, as reported by the Japan Meteorological Agency.
