Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio), the longest-serving woman in U.S. House history, has released her first video update since being involved in a hit-and-run car accident earlier this month in Toledo, Ohio. In the video posted on X, Kaptur, who appeared seated in a wheelchair, thanked thousands of well-wishers from her community, region, country, and around the world for their support, which she said has made a "huge difference" in her "very rapid recovery."

Kaptur and her congressional staffer, Keegan Zimmerman, were traveling to a church service when their vehicle was struck near Detroit and Central avenues in Toledo. Police described the incident as a "hit-skip" crash, a term used under Ohio law for a driver’s failure to stop following a crash.

Her office reported that Kaptur suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was active and alert after the collision. The congresswoman is currently undergoing physical rehabilitation and is benefiting from the House's August recess, allowing her additional time to recover before returning to Washington, D.C.

In the video, Kaptur also mentioned the importance of Vincent's, a medical facility treating many underserved patients across the region. She expressed appreciation for the care provided there.

Kaptur is seeking her 23rd term in the House this November in a key battleground race.
