A tragic incident unfolded in Burleigh County, North Dakota, on Thursday, August 6th, 2026, when 22-year-old Kailey Erhart allegedly stabbed her 5-month-old and 3-year-old children to death. The attack also seriously injured her 1-year-old child, who survived. Police reported that Erhart waved a gun at her estranged husband and threatened to kill herself prior to the stabbing.

Mandan Police Chief Jason Ziegler described the crime scene as "something that nobody should ever have to see," expressing pride in the officers' response during what he called one of the most horrific times they will likely experience in their careers. A judge set Erhart’s cash bond at $3 million, citing "the extreme violence in these alleged charges and the threat to the community, victims, and children," according to KFYR.
