Max Miller, the embattled Republican representative from Ohio, will remain on the ballot for the November election after missing the final deadline to withdraw his candidacy. Miller has faced increasing pressure from within his own party to resign following allegations of domestic abuse involving his ex-wife and daughter.

Last week, Miller vowed to defy these calls after his ex-father-in-law, Bernie Moreno, a GOP senator and ally of former President Donald Trump, publicly stated that Miller was unfit to serve in Congress. Moreno said, “If there are any basic standards of character required to hold elected office, Max Miller fails them. He should not serve in the House of Representatives.” He added, “This has been brutal beyond comprehension, and if there’s any minimum standard for being an elected official, as I said, he fails to meet that minimum basic standard.”

The deadline for Miller to step down and allow the GOP to select a replacement candidate has now passed, solidifying his place on the ballot.

Separately, progressive New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez revealed in a series of Instagram stories over the weekend that she has chosen to undergo fertility treatment, describing it as a way to feel more in control of her life.

In related political news, Donald Trump is scheduled to formally swear in Todd Blanche as the new U.S. attorney general at 2pm ET in the Oval Office. Blanche’s confirmation by the Senate came shortly before lawmakers left for the August recess, with Republican Senator Bill Cassidy casting the decisive vote in favor despite opposition from moderate GOP senators Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins.
