A Malaysian lawmaker is offering a 5,000 ringgit (US$1,200) reward to identify and apprehend the individual responsible for an arson attack that left a 62-year-old woman in critical condition in Kuala Lumpur.
The victim, a counter staff member, suffered burns covering 50 percent of her body after an unidentified person doused her with what police believe was petrol and set her on fire at a lottery shop in Kepong, a suburb approximately 14 kilometers from the city center.
Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng described the attack as an “act of shocking cruelty.” In a statement on Monday, Lim expressed his outrage, saying, “I am sickened and outraged by the brutal attack … the person responsible must be found, arrested and made to face the full force of the law.” He urged anyone with information to contact the police but cautioned against confronting the suspect.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, considering the attack unprovoked and without a clear motive.
