TOKYO — Japanese multinational corporations are capitalizing on the weak yen, leading to upward revisions in their full-year profit forecasts during the latest earnings season. Major companies such as Toyota, Sony, and Muji have reported improved business performance linked to the currency's depreciation.
The median yen-expectations figure among Topix constituent companies has risen to approximately 154 yen to the dollar in August 2026, up from 150 at the end of May. This shift reflects a weakening outlook for the yen among Japanese corporations following a recent dip beyond 160 yen to the dollar.
This trend indicates that despite the yen's decline, Japan's multinationals are effectively leveraging the currency environment to enhance their profitability.
