A Hong Kong man, Ng Ka-sing, has been sentenced to three years and nine months in jail for unintentionally suffocating his girlfriend, Yip Tsz-ching, while trying to dispose of her body after she passed out during a fake weight-loss regime that required her to avoid sleeping.
The High Court accepted that Ng, a former abattoir worker, was genuinely remorseful and had a low likelihood of reoffending. The court noted that the 29-year-old required psychological treatment to recover from the trauma of being forced to physically abuse his partner four years ago.
Ng had been incarcerated for four years and three months, meaning he has now completed his sentence. Last month, a seven-member jury acquitted Ng of murder by majority verdict at their flat in the Galore Garden estate in Hung Shui Kiu. However, the jury unanimously convicted him of manslaughter by an unlawful and dangerous act. Prior to the trial in June 2026, Ng pleaded guilty to preventing the lawful burial of Yip's body.
