A man carrying ammunition and a gun in his car was arrested on Sunday, August 3rd, 2026, at US President Donald Trump’s golf course in the Los Angeles area after appearing to monitor security preparations ahead of a fundraiser event, authorities said on Tuesday, August 5th.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department identified the suspect as 38-year-old Jeanine John Taele. Officials reported that Taele was taking photos and videos near the Trump National Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes and had a 16-round magazine with ammunition in his pocket.
Following the arrest, law enforcement searched Taele’s home in the nearby city of Downey on Monday, August 4th, uncovering a large cache of firearms, magazines, ammunition, body armor, and notebooks containing what were described as “concerning statements.” The sheriff’s department did not provide further details on the nature of these statements or whether an attack was planned.
Taele faces several felony charges including second-degree robbery, receiving a large-capacity magazine, and possession of a short-barrelled rifle or shotgun. Additionally, he was charged with the misdemeanor of carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle. On Monday, August 4th, he pleaded not guilty to all charges and was ordered to stay away from the golf course and prohibited from possessing weapons.
The arrest was announced as President Trump was preparing to attend the Republican National Committee dinner at the golf course.
