A Hawaii Democratic congressional candidate, Kirill Basin, was involved in a profanity-laced confrontation at Keawakapu Beach on Maui, during which he was knocked unconscious. The incident was captured on video and occurred days before Basin appeared in court on two felony terroristic threatening charges.

The video shows Basin approaching a group of beachgoers, telling one man, "Put your bag away, bro." The situation escalated as Basin turned toward a woman, demanding to know what she had said and issuing threats before challenging another man to fight. Basin told the group, "I told him if he wants to go to the hospital, come here." The confrontation briefly deescalated when Basin said, "It is over," and shook another person's hand.

Authorities recovered a 5-inch switchblade during the incident, which was turned over to Maui police. During Basin's initial court appearance on Tuesday, a judge maintained his $1 million bail and ordered him to have no contact with the victim, identified as Homan, and four other individuals.

The case has drawn attention amid ongoing political discussions in Hawaii.
